You captured an item from the soldiers which had a similar symbol to the one the Dragonbound machine. You handed Merhen the item that you captured from the Balaur. She said it was probably linked to the Id, and that the Dragonbound had built a machine that was also somehow connected with Id. According to Merhen, the Mitrakand Elite Soldiers were survivors of the Tiamat Legion. They surrendered to Beritra and are now affiliated with the Dragonbound. This made it clear that the Beritra Army's activities aimed at using the Id machine were not just linked to Atreia.
