At Ruabo's request, you found the Mysterious Shipwreck Discovery Site after sunset and met Harden's Soul there. Harden's Soul told you about the Pirate Cave, so you found the cave. In the Pirate Cave, you found an old pirate chest which contained the Pirates' Old Diary. While reading the diary, you found out what happened and told Harden. He believed that Barteon would have to be eliminated in order to lift the curse. After your victory over Barteon and you returned to Ruabo, he told you about a Storm Daeva who could not control his greed and became a pirate.
